Friends

i was just wondering were Doris Day and Frank Sinatra friends before this or during Young at Heart and if so, did they remain friends or were they close?

I am reading a biography of her now that says they knew each other quite a few years before when they were regulars on a radio show together. It also says Frank was kind of arrogant on the set to everyone but Ethel Barrymore. He & Doris were cordial, but not close. A neat trivia fact in the book (& I've seen this tidbit elsewhere too) is that after a crying scene of Doris' someone said she needed a tissue & a crew member carelessly tossed a kleenex box her way & hit her in the face. Sinatra went off of the guy telling him to NEVER throw anything at a lady and kept on him until the guy left the set. Guess he could be chivalrous when he wanted to be!

If he kept on at the guy until he left the set, that was a bit past chivalrous. While the original impulse was, the way it carried on probably just made everyone tense and uncomfortable. He was a strange man, that Frank Sinatra.

It says in the 'trivia' section that Frank Sinatra did not like Doris Day's husband Marty Melcher (felt he was using her to get ahead in show biz) and had him banned from the set. Doris Day of course didn't like this and their relationship "cooled". Years and years later after Marty Melcher died, she discovered he had spent/lost all her money and she had to do TV shows.
