Titles

This movie did not start with the usual Warner Brothers logo at the beginning and the end titles seemed to be replaced with a stark black and white "the end".

Before the film began Robert Osborn(sp?) said that this was a TCM premiere. Does anyone know what held-up this film from being shown?

Interesting point - I have just watched a second-hand VHS copy of the film this evening and the tracking shot that closes the film (showing a couple walking down the street) appears to 'freeze frame' and the wording for 'The End' is certainly in a typeface more suggestive of 1980s video titling than 1954. Is there a problem with the original end credits? I have not seen a DVD version yet but would appreciate comments from those who have...why no cast list either (mind you this is a more common failure than you might think even with classic era Hollywood films)

Just watched this film on BBC2. The credits at the start and end of the film was the 'Republic Film' logo. Maybe Warner Bothers sold the television rights to a different distribution company?. 'Young At Heart' is a pleasant but rather downbeat film and, in my opinion, perhaps the reason why it is not more highly regarded. The film has some beautiful songs, reasonably good acting but just lacks 'something' that would make it memorable. I wonder how many packets of cigarettes Frank Sinatra went through during production?, he seems to be smoking in every scene - even in hospital!.

I just watched it tonight on a videotape I made when it was shown on AMC years ago, and it didn't have the WB logo at the beginning, either. Nick Clooney introduced the film, then it started out with a black screen with Frank Sinatra singing the title song. The End titles came up suddenly on a blue screen. Maybe Warner Brothers sold the rights to this movie, and that's why their name was removed.

All these years later, I'll add that the print shown on TCM currently does contain the original opening and closing, WB shield and all.
