So who p.o.'ed whom?

The production value of this movie was very nice, plenty of extras, color film stock, and much more. And then? An hour and twenty-six minute movie that felt like at least a half hour to an hour had been chopped. It's almost as if someone with control of purse strings got irritated by something or someone and cut the budget in half. There was a transition at about the 40 minute mark where it went from a top level production down to B-movie caliber. The dialog became terse and functional. It seems like such waste of an opportunity. To use such scenic wonders and have a Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew result.
