The only other giant ant movie I know of is "Empire of the Ants", which, in my opinion, isn't even as good as this older film.

is that the same or is there another movie where people turn into giant ants? i remember a scene in a doctors office where a guy comes in with an ant hand and ends up killing the doc? and at the end of the film there is a movie theater with a fire on the screen that the crowd thinks is real, also a birth to a larva scene... any idea what movie that might be?

Looking at this description, it's rather hard to pin-point. I could think of THE BLACK SCORPION (1957), a movie that takes in place in Mexico (not Spain), where you have a boy in a deep dark cavern (though he didn't fall in, but rather stowed away on a lift) that is full of giant scorpions and other critters. Some of these creatures chase after the boy, but he does survive. The movie was shot in black and white.

HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS (1989), does have some pint-sized youngsters befriending an ant (a giant to them). The ant would later protect them from a scorpion.

The movie segment you saw is from MATINEE, directed by Joe Dante. John Goodman plays an exploitation filmmaker looking to make a big scare in Florida around the time of the Cuban missile crisis. The film he makes is entitled MANT, in which a man's DNA combines with that of an ant after a dentist visit gone awry, if memory serves.

Kindest kindest,
