Similarities to Jurassic Park

I was watching Them! last weekend and I found it incredible that extremely similar scenes are also found in Jurassic Park. I also found that the professor in Jurassic Park was almost identical in every way to the professor in Them!.

A couple of scenes that stand out from memory are:

- the breifings the professor gave in the helicopter on the way to the ant site;

- the meeting in the board room with the projector to learn about ants was just like when Laura Dern's and Jeff Goldblum's characters sat down to learn about Dinosaurs at the start of the film (obviously the the technology is newer)

- The ants escape just like the dinosaurs did.

There were more scenes, but my memory is failing me at the moment.

If you watch Them! now and keep Jurassic Park in mind while you watch it, you'll see what I mean.

I wonder if Michael Crichton was inspired by this film...

Funny the professors should remind you of each other since both actors played Kris Kringle in their generation's version of "Miracle on 34th Street".

THEM may not have created the formula for monster movies, but it certainly cemented it into our movie going collective unconcious. I always found the claustrophobic scenes in "Aliens" reminiscent of the sewer scenes in THEM.
