N. Mexico Police uniforms

I was watching this movie again today and noticed how the New Mexico State Police are wearing black uniforms. I figured that a desert state wouldn't have their officers wearing black. Most be a Hollywood thing.
I was surprised when I checked out the official police site http://www.nmsp.com/.
Not only are the uniforms either black are really dark but they looked unchanged from the 50's. They still have the different colored pocket flaps and stripes.

Distinctive looking but must be a uncomfortable in the high summer.

I'll go along with the different colored pocket flaps. I thought those uniforms looked really sharp.

the bow tie is cool but i think wearing black while working outside in hot & sunny new mexico wouldn't be.

Oh, and remember, next Friday is Hawaiian shirt day.
