Odd Apartment Set Lighting

I'm no expert at lighting film sets, but the lighting on the apartment set, especially behind the sofa when the shot is in front of the sofa, seems odd to me, almost amateurish. The lighting has been placed near floor level, casting unnatural upwards shadows on the set walls. It looks unnatural because most people don't light their living spaces from the floor.

Anyone know why the set was lit in this manner? The trivia section states it was intended to be shown in 3-D. Does this play a factor? There are a lot of low level shots in this film - I'm assuming to show off the 3D gimmick.
