Ever Notice how this is like SIngin' in the Rain?

Just came back from seeing "Singin' in the Rain". Had never seen it on the big screen. All I can say is "WOW". What struck me was how much the film is similar to "A Star is Born". "Singin' in the Rain" was made 2 years before "star" but the original version of "ASIB" was made 15 years before "Rain". There is a huge number in :Rain" that truly inspired "The Born in a Trunk" Sequence. Even the signature segment in "Singin' in the Rain" was the inspiration for the "Lose that Long Face" number in "ASIB"

There is also a few other scenes that ASIB that seem to have been lifted from this film.
BOTH MOVES OPEN WITH BIG HOLLYWOOD PREMIERES
BOTH FILMS USE BILLBOARDS tO SHOW THE ARRIVAL OF STAR
BOTH HAVE SOUND STAGES SCENES EVEN THE STUDIO HEAD LOOK AND ACT THE SAME

A few similarities in structure, but I really don't see the overall similarities.

"Rain" is a comedy. "Star" (1954) is drama with musical segments. It's has very dark subject matter: Alcoholism and the fall of Norman Maine. In fact "Star" would play as a drama if you took out all the musical numbers.

The musical numbers were to showcase Garland's immense talent. In fact, "Born in a Trunk" was ADDED as an afterthought, because they felt they needed to show how Esther became a star.

It lengthened the movie by 20 minutes, and later, massive cuts were made to pare the film down to a manageable length, at the request of theater owners.
