Even if they heard a baby...

The girls weren't up in the mountains THAT long.

well even if the timing wasnt possible. by them saying that the baby was "mine," it indicates that there was a possibility that something might of happened.

and they imply that the men may have done or acted improper to the girls which would ruin them (the girl's reputation) unless they were married. i also believe that they did it to save their lives (the guys).

Oh...okay! For some reason I didn't catch those lyrics. I gotcha.

Millie had just found out that she was going to have a baby around the time the girls arrived. I always thought that her baby was about two months old when the menfolk came to rescue them.

reply

I doubt that very much. We know that it was born in June, I hardly think the rest of the town woud have left it until August to go there.

I always tallied it up to be about 8 months that the girls were snowed in, a healthy baby can be born about a month early. I always figured that by the time the fathers had come to rescue the girls they had fallen in love with the boys and didn't want to leave them or get them in trouble with the law so they all tried to claim the baby was theirs so that they would have to marry out of wedlock and they wouldn't have to leave. That's how I always saw it played out.

reply

Marry out of wedlock? lol

For God's sake! That was a pot brownie! You're stoned off your ass!!

reply

Fairly obvious that they'd fallen for each other. Surely Adam and the others should have come out with a white flag and explained the situation- as in they were now in love and wanted to marry?
