Shelley Winters

I really enjoy the entertainment of movies but one of the off-shoots of watching movies is making observations regarding what the movie-makers put in to make the biggest sale of tickets. This 1954 "western" introduces us to the Shelley Winters character when she is found at the scene of a massacre of whites by Native Canadians (or Native Americans in Canada). She is found under the remains of a wagon tarp and is so afraid that she fires at her rescuers. So, when she is pulled out she is dirty, sooty from the burning wagon, etc...however, her dress is properly torn and pulled away from the shoulders enough that one can see her under-bodice and a decent amount (for 1954) of cleavage. As the saying goes, "Sex sells." The cheese cake was always being peddled and still is, of course. Just to give you perspective I was around 11 years-old when I first saw this in a theater when it was a first-run movie.
