Why is the title not "Saskatchewan"???

I never heard of a movie called "O'Rourke of the Mounted Police", but after looking through Alan Ladd's filmography twice, I figured out that this must be the new title of the old western "Saskatchewan" (it didn't show up at the top of my search, because imdb does not have an alphabetical search result like other websites).

"Saskatchewan" was always called "Saskatchewan" whenever I watched it on German TV or over here. I really don't understand what the imdb's intentions were when they gave it a different title? To confuse movie lovers maybe?
This might have been the working title at some point, but it never was the title of this wonderful western!
At least there should be a referral to the original title, even if it's called differently now. But search does not offer that :(.

I really love the imdb and use it on a daily basis, but please please, could you FINALLY improve the search results and put them strictly into alphabetical order, so I don't have to read through 20 to 50 other titles which come later in the alphabet only to find the title I was searching for. This is such a waste of time!

"This Gun for Hire" did not get a new title either...so why this one?

I guess that "Saskatchewan" is a bit difficult for some people to get their tongue around and/or spell.

Yes, Marlburian, that makes sense!
It's just that I grew up with this title on German TV.
Thank you :).

Just saw it on arte (a German station) and instantly found it here by typing in "Saskatchewan". That's also how it's currently listed in Ladd's filmography. And, by the way, it's not a Western since it's obviously not set in the American west.

I'm here, Mr. Man, I cannot tell no lie and I'll be right here till the day I die

I too watched it last evening on arte and found it by typing in Saskatchewan :)

Well, it depends how you define Western as a genre. If you want to be very strict, you only count films which are set in this particular time and place of the USA, but usually there are plenty of films which are regarded as Westerns although they are not set in the Wild West, but instead share other things, like certain themes, narratives, or other typical characteristics of Western movies. Therefore, Western as a movie genre isn't necessarily limited to the Wild West.
Just watch the German film "Deadlock" - if you don't already know it - which isn't set in the Wild West but definitely has a certain Western feeling.

I wondered the same thing.

I saw the movies in the theater in 1954, and it was titled Saskatchewan.

I just watched it on Encore an hour age and it was called Saskatchewan.

I'm just reading the Alan Ladd biography written by Beverly Linet (1979) and it only has the title "Saskatchewan" there, too. No other title/work title is mentioned. I was disappointed that it was not received very well from the critics as I always loved this western. O.k., "Sakkatchewan" might not have "Shane" caliber, but is a very entertaining western nevertheless.
