One of the best Japanese films ever made and films in general is finally in the top 250, at #250. I hope this terrific film stays steadly in the top 250, I hope users don't bring this film's high down a lot now it is in the top 250.
shareIt certainly is a film that deserves more regard; I don't think that it will ever be overt enough to gain a popular audience, but I would like to see TSP to acknowledge it a bit more than they do.
Considering how much higher the inferior (though still good) Ugetsu is, I think its about time that their list gives credit to Mizoguchi's real masterpiece.

Sansho the Bailiff does belong in the top 250. However, there are many Kurosawa, Naruse, Kobayashi and Ozu films which are better in my opinion and are also not in the top 250.
Same can be said for a lot of European films as well. It is not a ratings system that anyone should really hold to any form of authority on movie quality. Too many kids, fools and agenda voters...even among the weighted "top 1000 voters."
Popular movies and new movies are weighted the most by simply existing.
