Why Did Holden Have Blond Hair in this Movie?

Holden was a very good-looking guy (at least at this point in time), but for some reason, his hair seemed to be lightened for this role. I think it actually detracted from his appearance. Does anybody know why this was done? Was it to make more of a contrast between him and Bogart or to make him appear more youthful and frivolous?

I believe it was to portray him visually as The Golden Boy, Golden Lad; that archetype.

I think it was to show that he spent all his time letting the sun kiss his hair while he played tennis, yachted, golfed, and did nothing on beaches, while his peers were indoors working.

I think it was a good idea. It both told the audience what kind of person he was, and it made Holden look a bit younger.
