which is better? the original, or the 1995 remake?

which do you prefer?

the orig., or the 1995 remake w/Harrison Ford & Greg Kinnear?

I prefer the 1995 remake. The characters are unlikable in the original. The 1995 story makes more sense. The Bogart/Hepburn pairing is creepy; the 1995 equivalent is less so. There is nothing I like better about the original and I am a big Bogart fan. This is all opinion.

I prefer the original.

The original is better, if no other reason that the father omitted from the remake was a hoot. There are other reasons, too. The actress in the remake doesn't hold a candle to Hepburn, Harrison Ford is as wooden as in every role where his name isn't Solo or Jones, and the pacing in the remake is, at times, painfully slow.

I've seen both and I can't disagree with this!

The father being omitted is one of the main reasons I prefer the 1995 version; the character was pointless

I gotta go with the original. The only improvement in the remake is Harrison Ford as Linus, who seems a more believable romantic partner despite his stodginess. Ormond just can't compare to Hepburn and the pacing in the remake is spotty (way too much time spent on her time in Paris).

The remake.

I rate the 1954 a 9 (currently has a 7.6 on IMDb) and the 1995 an 8 (currently at 6.3), so IMDb voters think it's better as well. It's all the little touches really. The father and the garage and the business about the glass and so on.
