Quality of UK DVD release

I've just purchased this on DVD (released by Pickwick) and have to say, it is THE most appalling DVD quality i've ever seen! It looks as if it was filmed in the 1910's not the 50's! I cannot believe this is the best print available. Anyone have a better version?

I'm going to hazard a guess that this movie is now copyright free in the UK, hence this poor release by Pickwick.

I've just pruchased this too and am shocked at the blurred murky image. I remember seeing this on TV as a kid and I assume whichever channel screened it retain a copy which is better quality. Its partially the transfer which makes the image so washed out and substandard. A great shame. A classic film which needs to be digitally remastered. I may check to see if the BFI has a copy!

Agreed! Just watched the DVD of this and couldn't believe how poor the picture and sound were. Definitely a prime candidate for a bit of digital restoration.

I've seen better looking bootlegs. Pickwick should be ashamed to market this.

This film deserves a better dvd release. Pickwick also missed the funniest piece of Frankie Howerd in the film. Where Frankie talks on the phone to his hard-of-hearing grandmother is not included. It's a gem of a scene and should always be included on any dvd release of this film.
