I want to buy a DvD of Rose Marie (1954) with Dolby 5.1 surround sound

This version of Rose Marie was a high point of my college days at U.Va. I still have a 45 rpm record of the sound track music. I also know that unlike its pre-war counterpart, it was actually filmed in the Canadian Rockies. Why don't they have this one available - has the original deteriorated that badly or what???

I found that MGM released a VHS version in 1991. See this link:

Good luck and hope you can enjoy it!

Yes, but this version of Rose Marie was the first Musical in CinemaScope, without which it loses its visual strength. The film is in stereo and has a gorgeous soundtrack album, which I've only heard in mono. I've seen the movie and it is a delight. Listen up, MGM/Warners!

I would like too have "Rose Marie" on DVD. Maybe with any bonus features/ docemantaries. It could be interesting to have also the Version from 1936.

You'll be getting your wish when Warner Bros. releases it on dvd next year. Do you have the past musical collections?

How do you know wich musicals are being released on dvd? I could die to see Yolanda and the Thief on DVD, do you know it it's being released anytime soon?

reply

Cause Warners said so in February. Yolanda will probably be released soon cause there are only 3 more Fred Astaire films Warner owns and George Feltenstein said he wants to get them all out.

You could die of old age before Warner Bros. ( who own all MGM films) ever releases it.. notwithstanding George Feltensteins' supposed interest in seeing this wonderful musical film released. A year ago I bought two excellent official Brazilian DVD releases of this movie in 2.55:1 cinemascope and will part with one of them, if anyone is interested. The color is vibrant, picture is very sharp and has surround sound of excellent clarity.

You can get this on DVD in widescreen and stereo sound from Amazon. It is an import and the disk menu, liner notes and sub-titles are in Portuguese. The sound track is in English. The transfer is very good and clear on the disk I got.

Warner Archives has released a remastered DVD-R today (4/12/2011) here in the U.S. You can order it now at wbshop.com, and eventually at other online stores.
