copy video or DVD

I saw this film in a tiny Japanese village theater in the Yamagata prefecture in 1955. I was 11 years old. And never had seen a film depicting nudity such as the women being stripped of their negligées and put to the sword in the Saint Bartoleméo's night massacre of Huguenots or a brief flash of Jeanne Moreau in her transparent negligée. I tried Amazon and Ebay but failed to find this film under it title "A Woman of Evil" or La Reine Margot. Is there a copy anywhere in the universe of this film to be gotten?

Go to the French Amazon website. I found a copy of the film on VHS there (it doesn't seem to have ever been released on DVD) for around 30 euros. I must warn you, though, that French videotapes are usually in the format SECAM, and so you will probably need to buy a French VCR as well if you want to play it.

I bought DVD region players thru Amazon to play UK DVDs; but haven't heard of French other-region VHS players. I guess I will look up SECAM and buy one via Ebay or Amazon. Merci for the info!

You're welcome!

Make sure to search for a "magnétoscope" (French word for VCR). eBay is the place to look for one; I tried to order one off the French Amazon, but I live in the US and Amazon.fr doesn't let its sellers ship VCR's outside of France. On eBay, some sellers won't ship outside of France at first, but try to negotiate with them.

Be warned, though, that if you find one, the overseas shipping costs will probably be steep, because French international shipping boxes, especially ones big enough to ship a VCR, are expensive. (I know this from personal experience, because I studied abroad in France last year and had to purchase an extra large one to mail books home. It was 51 euros.) Also, unless you have one already, you'll probably need to purchase an adapter plug to plug it in.

It's all very complicated, but worth it if you want to watch foreign movies on VHS. I hope that you're able to find a French VCR and that it works.
