Walter Neff redux

As has been pointed out elsewhere in the comments, Fred MacMurray basically reprises the role of Walter Neff in ‘Pushover.’ It’s uncanny how little he changed in the decade between. Also remarkable is his speech and manner, so similar to his performance in Double Indemnity, especially the tension and intensity he projects so well. Kim is fine, ditto for the supporting cast, especially future TV Philip Marlowe Phil Carey. But it’s MacMurray’s movie in an errily reminiscent take which so recalls his greatest role.
