Beware, poss spoiler, but the...

...Mosquito used in the crash scene looked less like a mock-up and more like a real one. Which was it? Pity if the latter.

I thought it looked like a typical 1950's mock-up & overall a not too badly done mock-up at that. That being said... at the point in time that the film was made there were probably non-airworthy Mossies available for a crash scene. The Mosquito was at the end of it's service live both as a design & due to the wooden parts of the airframe deteriorating in the tropical humidity.

I'm curious as to why the downed Mosquito did not burn more completely. After all, it was a twin engined wooden plane with one burning engine, carrying highly flammable avgas, and both wing tanks ignited after the crew escaped. Nothing but metal debris would have been left.

Curious as to why they didn't create a signal fire and smoke column visible for miles by torching the remains. Crews were also trained to make big symbols on the ground using available materials. Either move draws enemy attention assuming the plane went down behind enemy lines. Otherwise they should have done both.

"...assuming the plane went down behind enemy lines..."

The aeroplane did crash land behind enemy lines.

The thing I found most confusing, was that the plane wasn't purple.
