Otherwise good movie nearly ruined with stupid 'misunderstanding' plot

The romantic (or other) misunderstanding, often depending on implausible contrivances, incredible coincidence, unwarranted assumptions, is one of the lamest plot devices there is. (I know, Shakespeare did it.) In real life do people not allow those trying to explain something to them not allow them to even finish their sentence? Because that's the case in most of these movies. It's infuriating and destroys suspension of disbelief. Unfortunately, this otherwise fun, adventurous movie has 'the romantic misunderstanding' rom com cliche stinking in its punchbowl for no good reason.
