I got a hire copy today and found the picture a bit dodgy, particularly at the start and the sound resembled listening through a pipe, all echo and vagueness. Worth a watch if you're a complete-ist but disappointing as a film.

Classic comedy? Not really. In truth it's not much of a film at all. In the early sixties, when Tony Hancock and Sid James were at the height of their popularity, it was re-released with the (approximate) tagline "Starring Tony Hancock and Sid James!!!". Well, they're both in it but that's about all one can say. If you're looking for a relationship similar to that in the later classic BBC TV series, forget it.

I suppose I should be grateful that such a film, described as a "Long Lost Comedy Classic", has found its way onto DVD, but could it not have been "cleaned-up", both visually and aurally, prior to release - it's clearly not a "re-mastered" edition!
That said, it is interesting as an example of what Beaconsfield Studios (which also appears to double as the Army Camp) was producing in 1954.
The comedy is lame, apart from that relating to the British Army, which is quite knowing (and the actors, who had probably all had some military experience, know how to salute and drill - unlike most modern actors!).
But who are "Slam Dunk Media", the distributor of the DVD? I can't find them on a Google search.
