An elite film noir?

Often not included in lists of the top film noir because it is not typical of that genre but by definition I believe it is.

This film has plenty of that. How many people want to change places with these guys? It is a very dark film. The poverty, the potential for injury or death on the job.

Also some elements of a gangster film but gangster films are primarily about the gangsters themselves not just films about them. Brando and his brother are inside the mob from the beginning.
