Eleanor Parker is really sexy in this.

There is something about her. Her beauty. Her grace. The fact that she spends a lot of time in nightclothes...

I decided to watch it again last night by coincidence (I have a tape, is it on DVD yet?), and you are right, I always thought she was really sexy, but it a beautiful classy way. And she does spend a lot of time in nightclothes, and she does more for the clothes than they do for her. They just don't have movie stars like her anymore.

She's also perfect in this role. Reminds me a little of Deborah Kerr in her prime. I can't think of too many stars that could go toe to toe with Heston on the screen.

reply

Yes it's out on DVD- I have it. Just watched it again today lol.
She really is beautiful, they just dont make actresses like any older stars nowdays.

She certainly is. I couldn't help but notice her, uh, decollage, I believe they called it back then. Those old fashion pointy bras were pretty sexy under sweaters. I thought any moment Heston was going to lose an eye.

"I thought any moment Heston was going to lose an eye."

Thank goodness for his height, otherwise you'd be right.

I thought E.P was great in this, but did anyone else crack up laughing when she asks him to rub the bug repellent on her? I laughed b/c I thought, "she's totally seducing him and he has no clue!" Until the end of the scene of course, lol.

The word is "decolletage" and, believe it or not, some of us old-timers still use it.

Eleanor Parker was quite a dish, wasn't she? (Yes, some of us still call a beautiful woman a "dish," too!)

All the universe . . . or nothingness. Which shall it be, Passworthy? Which shall it be?

Eleanor Parker was one of the most beautiful actresses ever to come out of Hollywood. She had her own unique style and could act. That's quite a combo.

She is definitely one of the most beautiful women Hollywood has ever seen and I loved her in this film. It is such a shame though that so many people don't even know who she is anymore. I hate to see this generation of film and actors becoming forgotten among younger generations (of which I am a part of).

She was a beauty.

Hello sevenember,

I read your comment of (Sunday Jun 15 2008) - I don't know if you are still active with IMBD, however I thought to reply back to you. You are absolutely right in your comment about her and as an up and coming indie film maker - I cannot tell you what I would give to be able to direct the actors and actresses of her generation.

Ms. Parker's performance in the second version of 'Of Human Bondage' was in my opinion more subtle than that of Betty Davis who was in the first adaptation.

I hope all is well with you.

Regards.

S.

Yes, as a matter of fact I am still active, though not nearly as often as I used to be.

We may not still have the actors, but perhaps you will have luck in your career at bringing back some of the beauty of such films and actors. Much luck in your pursuits!

You know, when you mention how we forget these wonderful stars that gave us so much enjoyment, I always regretted not at least writing to Ava Gardner who was so beautiful and full of life, and who died almost alone, sick and depressed, and hardly able to breathe. Thats not right. We should write to Eleanor Parker to tell her that we havent forgotten her. She's getting older. Not many of the glamourous stars are left. No one today can measure to them.

reply

YES, so true. Another is Veronica Lake, so breathtakingly beautiful - and when given the chance quite a great actress. But she died penniless, working as a bartender. Such a sad story --- it really should be made into a movie itself!

reply

Yes. Must have been the way they photographed the women at this time - Ava Gardner (Pandora),Jennifer Jones(Duel In The Sun), Jean Simmons (Spartacus), Rita Hayworth (Blood and Sand). Her hair colour was glorious and I loved her voice. She really was an amazingly talented actress (just saw 'Caged'). She's still alive I think. What stories she could tell.

Her best scene is when she asks him to rub the insect lotion into her skin, and she turns to him over her shoulder, and gives him the "look".

Then she runs off to her cot with a smirk on her face. She is so neat:-D

I agree that Eleanor Parker is absolutely stunning!!

I first saw her as the 'other' woman in "The Sound of Music" with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, way back in 1964, or whenever.

At that point, (I was in my early teens) EP was just another hurdle in between the love affair of the two main stars, and I didn't really pay her much notice. (I was more in love with Charmian Carr!)

However, since I saw her in this, (about 20 years ago) I have completely changed my mind!!!

I re-watch it a couple of times a year now, just to drink in her beauty once again. She is absolutely gorgeous, from any, and every angle!

It's really unfortunate that she was such an underrated actress.
