A good as A Touch of Evil?

With all due respect... not even in the same league. Anything with Sterling Hayden and Gloria Grahame should be worth viewing, but a bad script is hard to overcome for anyone.

But, the REAL culprit is Gene Barry's over-the-top, borderline ridiculous "acting" - which made this film hard to watch with a straight face.

You are correct in one similarity... the border town. Other than that, apples and oranges. Or if you like - a little b-movie versus a revered, classic noir film.
