I rented this from netflix and on the disc it says Disc 5 of the sissi collection. Other than the director and the star being the same, how is this movie related to the Sissi Trilogy? I mean do their stories intertwine some how? If not, why was it included in the collection?

The director and crew are the same which is why it ressemble. The actors are somehow different...les. It was a lovely introduction to her role of Sissi since this film was made one year before the first part of the trilogy.
Not only it features Romy Schneider and her mother Magda (who,oddly,does not play her mother here but a baroness,the queen's lady-in-waiting and confident) ,but it depicts the meeting Albert /Victoria as the director (Ernst Marischka who directed the four movies)would do with Elizabeth and Francis Joseph.
The stories does not intertwine but it is still a good movie to watch...
I prefer Sissi trilogy though
