Preferential treatment for Keenan Wynn

When Van Johnson's jet is damaged, the narrator informs us that he will land last because if he crashed the deck might be trashed and prevent the other jets from landing. However, when Keenan Wynn's jet is damaged he lands first and indeed does send flaming wreckage all over the deck. Why do the film makers go out of their way to inform of us a sensible rule and then ignore it?

No, Wynn's character doesn't land first...he lands last. They just didn't repeat the individual shots of the first flyers landing again - we've already been told in the earlier scene's narration that the damaged plane lands last.

Besides, that's the point of the shot of Szymanski rushing the plane with wings folded being lowered below deck - to clear the landing deck for the damaged plane.
