A great, gritty character study
Just watched on AMC.
One of the joys of Memorial Day is that movies like this are shown (I have to wonder whether it will be until next May that it will next hit the screen any where). Much better than watching Patton, Devil's Brigade or the Dirty Dozen for the umpteeth time.
It's not a masterpiece. The story lines are clumsily integrated. The cinematography could be better. Yet the film grabs you because of it's character development, realism in feeling, and contemprorary insights (and by contemporary I mean 50's).
Not going on my wall; I'm not even sure how many years it will be before I see it again. But darn glad that I did see the film.
