I Am No Longer an Atheist Thanks to This Film

After having seen this film, I was so moved that it led to various experiences and...well, to make a long story short, I am no longer an atheist and I am now a practicing Roman Catholic. All because of a chain of events that began after I saw this film. Praise be to Christ!

This was the first movie I was allowed to visit in a cinema by my parents. Undoubtfully after an oral commercial from the pulpit of our Franciscan parish. It was in 1956, I was 5 or 6 years old. Of course the end provoked childly tears. Maybe it would still do the same to me.
Now being an atheist, I wonder why anybody could become a believer by such a fairy tale. Is religion identical to sentimentality? An orphan, a talking sculpture, fatherly monks: all ingredients of the classical tear-yerker.
Do these provide you with arguments for the belief in something supernatural?
Maybe some scepticism is justified here.

I am in agreement with you, johan,; I was raised a Roman Catholic and was in the seminary. That religion is so full of holes and frauds no movie will ever give me a silly, fairy tale faith. Some people are just incredibly won over by hokum.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

What's the biggest gripe you have against Roman Catholicism?

Just curious, if you're no longer an athiest, why is your handle 'atheismyes'?

As much as I love this film, I cannot see how it can move people from atheism to Roman Catholicism. That seems a little weird. Modern Catholics are generally OK but I find Christianity as a whole to be filled with evil (especially if you read the Bible literally) or ignorance.

He said "I was so moved that it led to various experiences and...well, to make a long story short" which means is was not a simple "watch this film and you will be converted". Sometimes it's something small and powerful that leads to many OTHER events, as was hinted at in his post, that leads you to your faith.
