Bicycle Friend

Does anyone know the actress who played Caroline's friend? The one she went on the bicycle trip with? I don't think anyone ever called the woman by name, so I can't figure out who that was.

Seeing a butch, young woman in older films is kind of rare. Especially not playing an overbearing authority figure or hateful shrew.

Caroline's friend bicycle-riding friend was played by Judith Furse. Her character in MAD ABOUT MEN was apparently named Viola (according to IMDB.com), although I don't remember her being called by name in the film.

I also remember seeing Ms. Furse in a number of other British films like BLACK NARCISSUS (1947; as Sister Briony), THE MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT (1951; as Nurse Gamage), and HELTER SKELTER (1949; as David Tomlinson's overly-protective mother) which also featured Glynis Johns in a surprise cameo appearance as Miranda the mermaid.

Judith Furse died on August 29, 1974, from a heart attack at the age of 62.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom oneders63. Very thorough and helpful answer.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Movie girl: I remember Judith now. I think she played one of the students in
a classroom with Petula Clark called The Romantic Age, '49.

Movie girl: I know who you mean and did not see a credit for her. I think
she was simply athletic. She added a comic relief to the story. I think I have seen her in other films. She may have been in The Belles of St. Trinian's
with Alistair Sim. I know she seems very familiar. (I usually think of older films as being in the 30's and 40's, not the 50's, but still films were more
subtle at that time as well).
