Even If Doris Didn't Like It.....

...I still love the opening number...where extras are idly walking down a city street...and Doris arrives...singing and skipping.

Also, did you notice this movie includes a recurring plot point in many of Doris's musicals and comedies...her leading man deceives her by assuming a false identity that he thinks will impress her (as opposed to his real self)
Then, of course, the revelation scene where Doris feels hurt and betrayed by the deception and takes a good long time (almost to the end of the movie) to
forgive him.

It's an old movie trick that's used when men find that a woman isn't going to fall in bed easily, so they must "trick" her, somehow, by playing someone else in order to "bed her." Silly, but true.

But he doesn't use it as a ploy to "bed her"...it's a case of mistaken identity. She sees the name on the car and assumes it's him.

Unless you just meant movies in general.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom. Maybe that's the trouble with me.

The opening number is just great. Pity the rest of the movie didn't keep up with that level.

Your are right - the plots of most of the Doris Day musicals and comedies are based on cases of mistaken identity.
