Tossing out the rocks onto the road below?

Didn't it seem strange that the writers would have Nicky do that in a Lucy-Desi comedy? Even at 12 years old when I saw this on TV, I thought, "Isn't it likely that he'll kill someone driving the roads below?" That part always bugged me...

He'd reached his breaking point. Tacy's little rock collection could have cost them their lives.

I didn't think there was much below except the one sparsely-populated road (they only saw one other car) and the wilderness.
