Cheesy and Silly, but...

...how on earth can you beat Paris, Elizabeth Taylor, and Edith Head gowns?
I'll always love this movie for those 3 reasons.

Agreed, great dresses, especially ET's lavender dress that matched her violet eyes.

Sure the gowns in this film were Helen Rose designs?

I always look for Edith Head designs and Ben Nye for the make-up.
But, as someone else stated, the gowns were by Helen Rose.

Make-up by William Tuttle.

Love this film- love Van Johnson so much more than Elizabeth Taylor...

I liked the feeling of being in Paris too, while watching this movie. The lovely evocative title tune is another plus. It had previously won the 1941 Oscar for best song with the lyrics sung by Eleanor Powell.

The head of costumes in those days were under contract to specific studios. Edith head was at Paramount, helen Rose was at MGM.

Meanwhile, I though Van Johnson was pretty good in this film, his last under long term contract to MGM.

I like the song but I heard it 20 times too much in this movie.

I found it jarring when they jumped from a location shot to a studio shot. Much more of this movie was shot in Culver City than anybody realizes. For instance, people are walking thru a park with a carousel and they sit on a bench. Cut to the two-shot and they are now on a sound stage or outdoor studio set. It just didn't look like Paris anymore.
