This one brings back memories

The Bowery Boys never reached the pop culture status given to the Three Stooges but in their heyday, they were more often seen on a regular basis. First of all, they made six to eight pictures a year that were shipped to theaters running double bills on Saturdays. The Boys would be teamed with Johnny Mack Brown, Whip Wilson, or Bomba. The Stooges made short comedies (approximately 20 minutes) and were used as filler. It was their television appearances and their full length films of the late Fifties and early Sixties that got them recognition. While both teams used slapstick comedy, the Stooges' brand of eye-poking and slapping did not meet with approval from parents who saw their children "acting out" what they had seen on the screen. "Jungle Gents" came out in September, 1954, when television was rapidly taking over the small fry's attention on Saturdays. I recall seeing this one and remember seeing Clint Walker as Tarzan at the end because he comes in and takes Laurette Laez away from Huntz Hall. Of course at the time, Walker was not known as "Cheyenne". That was to come a couple years later. What this film was teamed with escapes my recollection, but I would imagine it was a Columbia western, not necessarily a Gene Autry or Durango Kid. Columbia Pictures was also still making serials, even though they were using stock footage and recycled plots from previous serials. I have heard that Huntz Hall was not a good guest to have at a nostalgia festival. He had a tendency to be rude to people and take advantage of his star status. Leo Gorcey also had a turbulent life and is rumored to have been abusive to his wives.
