I loved it!

I heard the theme last week and had to watch the movie this weekend. I've worshipped "Airplane" for decades and resisted watching this “granddaddy,” but I loved the film and ended up seeing it twice.

The anachronistic details were stunning: smoking on board, a gun on board, everyone was dressed as though attending a party, the stewardess was kind and passengers checking in proclaiming their age!

My Dad and I watched John Wayne movies all the time, but we didn’t see this one together. I’m off to buy it online so I can watch The Duke bit** slapping instead of throwing punches!

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

The amazing thing is that it's as dumb as "Airplane" without trying to be. Without the title song, I can't believe this would have been acceptable even in the '50's.

I agree

If you loved Airplane! you should also check out a film called "Zero Hour" with Dana Andrews. It was based on a book called Runway Zero-Eight, by Arthur Haley (Airport) and John Castle. It is really the movie that the brothers used when making Airplane!. Hard to watch it with a straight face. Has all those lines "Guess I picked the wrong week to quit smoking" and tons of others. There is even a comparison contrast of the two movies up on youtube.

ghostfan, I watched "Zero Hour" today and couldn't get through it with a straight face! I could see and hear all the gags in my head and I'm looking for my "Airplane" DVD as I type. Thanks for cluing me in!
