Robert Stack a Coward?

Is it just me, or does Robert Stack playing a "coward" pilot who lost his nerve, still seem way more manly than the leading male action heroes we have today like Nicholas Cage and Shia LaBeouf? Can you imagine how these two would come off playing cowards next to The Duke?

I agree with you, our culture prizes neutered males today. I know not why....

I agree with you. Most male stars today don't project as much masculinity as stars of the pre-1970 era. They're too talky, immature and angsty, especially Americans. (Australian actors still seem to be able to pull off a level of old-fashioned manliness for some reason.) On the other hand, Robert Stack was a particularly virile actor, even by the standards of the 50s, so it's perhaps not entirely a fair comparison.
