"Airplane" was a spoof of this

Did anyone else notice that the movie(s) "Airplane" was a TOTAL spoof of this movie?
Once I linked the two, it was hilarious! Especially when the navigator had his hair all crazy near the end.. like the cooked out guy in "Airplane".

Actually Airplane was not a spoof of "The High and the Mighty" though there may be some similarities. The closer parody was "Zero Hour!", 1957 with Dana Andrews, Linda Darnell, Sterling Hayden. Some of the script in Airplane is nearly word for word out of Zero Hour along with some of the characters.

Here's a fun comparison of the two movies. TCM played the movies back to back once, and that ws a hoot.

The makers of "Airplane!" bought the remake rights to "Zero Hour!" because "Airplane!" is basically a remake of that film. There's a reason why both movies use an exclamation mark!

I knew it !!

Nope, the main inspiration for Airplane was Zero Hour. Same plot and literally word for word in spots. That's not saying this film didn't contribute.

Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something.
