I don't know why but I've always had the feeling that the ceilidh sequence, the old blind man's birthday, was peopled largely by total amateurs. To its credit!!

Can anyone enlighten me?

While I'm here, I love this perfect little film so very much.

Also, the 100 year old birthday party was mostly locals.

This film is so dear to my heart.

My Scottish-Canadian grandmother spoke with an accent, although what is heard is that wonderfully lilting Western Isles accent. Many of the main cast were not from there, but they worked on it, and sounded the same. The sentences start high and descend like on a stairway.

The trouble with films is they give the illusion that we all will live forever. I just saw where Tommy Kearins died a few years ago, and I about wept. Well, they live in my heart, as long as it's beating....
