similarities between GOG and THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN (SPOILERS!)

Multilevel underground secret scientific installation in the SW desert of the USA. Color-coded clothing specific to assigned level. Climax involves racing a computer to avert a nuclear detonation. And a monkey (Pepe was cuter, but the TAS rhesus has a death scene worthy of opera).

I bet Michael Crichton saw this as a kid. Their overall plots are very similar.

Just rediscovered GOG recently (Youtube). Had some intriguing ideas for its time. Wonder what it could have been with a bigger budget. All set at an underground installation in the desert.

A bit talky at times, with scientists explaining everything, and the romance was bland, as was the "standard".

However, it did have some surprising gruesome scenes of grisly deaths. The opening set everything up. For an old Saturday Morning "Kids" movie, it was disturbing.

Wasn't sure if that mysterious rocket was from the 'other side' or if it was sent by an alien race that tries to gain full control of our technologies.

I prefer the second choice. The Cold War/Atomic Scare would still be there. And you'd wonder if this race will attempt this again.

Anyways, Crichton obviously knew of GOG.

One of the more ambitious SF 50's movies that treated its subject manner intelligently, and not as condescending camp.
