Gog

My mate is called Gog. He is a weightlifter.

The title of this movie refers to one of two robots in the movie, named Gog and Magog, after the two apocalyptic superpowers in Bible prophecy in the book of Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39.
The two superpowers Gog and Magog are Russia and Red China in Bible prophecy of the Last Days. It is fitting that Ivan Tors sought to link this apocalyptic imagery with modern-day (1954) technology and atomic weapons.

How did ya figure that one out, genius? Russia and Red China didn't exist then, nor are they mentioned by name. Nor is there ANY way to correlate them. Religion, ha. Try the real world, it's wonderful.

reply

Yes, they existed in 1954.

The film was called Gog the Killer. I saw it first run in Detroit.
It cost me $0.14 at the Lakewood Theater in Detroit

I wonder why it was changed.

reply

Same here -- wonder why they changed it too.

reply

Well gog wasn't actually a killer (well ye it killed 2 people but its not on his own). he was controlled by enemy (of undisclosed country) plane.

That's the title I remember too. But it cost me fifteen cents at the President theater in Philly.

You old-timers must be taking your vitamins to remember what you paid to see a movie 60 year ago. My dad says he went to the movies for two bottle caps in the mid fifties. I'm not sure what he means by that, it must have been some kind of promotion. Cost me like 50 bucks to take the wife and kids to the movies today by the time we share a large popcorn and a couple of drinks.

reply

When I saw movies like this at Saturday Matinees the adult tickets were 50 cents the children's were a quarter. You could get popcorn for 15 cents and a Hershey bar for a dime! Times have changed.

When we saw it at the drive-in, it was titled "Gog". I've never seen that other title listed except here.

As it was, when I used to talk about this film, people had never heard of it and kept saying that I was mistaken. (This was long before the Net of course.) but, I was certain about all of it though, at only about 5, I didn't understand a lot of the plot yet.

Yes, we used to have a delay of several years before copies got to us.
