Mixed race army units during WWII?

When Miller is leading the military band and the army units are passing the general there were several mixed race units. Did the army have mixed race units during WWII? Or, did intergration only take place at a later time ?

To LesterFester: The U.S. military was changed from segregated units to intergrated units on July 26th 1948, prior to that date, Black units were commanded by White Officers, presumably because there were no Black Officers,
(did the High Command really think that Black soldiers lacked the ability to be Officers ?).
This film was made in 1954 when intergration was well established, so probably the parade was of real life army units being used by the film company, and no one dared suggest getting the black soldiers out of the ranks for authenticity.
Hope this helps !

Thanks for the reply.

Political Correctness even in 1954? They could have set the units up as all
white and all black for authenticity. Things like that are done all the time
to get an authentic look to a past scene.

The same thing occurs in BATTLE CRY (1954). An integrated Marine Corps appears, although the movie takes place in WWII.
