1953 premiere in Missouri??

IMDb lists THE FRENCH LINE as a 1953 film and states it's premiere was in St. Louis, Missouri in December 1953. Why would a film this big have a premiere in Missouri - and some five months before it's general release? Can anyone confirm this fact that it premiered there? I have never seen THE FRENCH LINE listed anywhere else but as a 1954 release.

For year of release, IMDB always uses the first date that a film was publicly screened. This includes premieres and film festivals, too.
