Fictional address:

In Dial M for Murder, Tony Wendice gives his home address as 61A Charrington Gardens, Maida Vale.

No such road exists in Maida Vale and the exact location used in London by the second unit team to shoot the exterior footage is currently unknown.

The film also features the fictional Maida Vale Police Station

It was filmed in the soundstages of Warner Brothers' Burbank Studios (apart from the stock footage which was rear projected)

Thanks but all I want to know is where was the stock footage filmed? Scroll down to the picture of Grace Kelly entering her flat

It doesn't look like stock footage with the two policemen by their car in the road.

oh sorry, my bad

found this from a link on that site

[...]Ken was also kind enough to send me some screen grabs of the exterior shots used in the film, which I reprint below. They really don’t seem to be from around here, and look to me to be either one of the streets on the perimeter of Regents Park, or possibly somewhere around Belgrave Square.

are you also in the UK, am in Hertfordshire

That could be a help. Toward the end of the film when Mark is figuring out which key is the right key you see traffic moving in the background. The end of the road is a T junction and you see traffic moving along it, even a London bus. That wall at the end could be a clue, if it is still there today of course. I've checked behind Lords Cricket Ground and around Buckingham Palace but it does not match.

Collingham Road at the junction with the northern part of Courtfield Gardens. South Kensington off Cromwell Road, which is the road at the end of the scenes.

reply

Yes, it's definitely Collingham Road, SW5 - facing north towards what is now the Sainsburys on the Cromwell Road. Hitchcock lived on the Cromwell Road, so he would have known the area very well indeed!

reply

The buildings on the right of the photo are still there, largely unchanged. The building directly in front of the camera, on the corner with the Cromwell Rd now has a 'double edge', with the brickwork extended slightly to conceal modern building constructed behind it.
