Carbon Copy of Destry Rides Again

I watched this movie last year and then I watched the earlier James Stewart version Destry Rides Again yesterday. It is practically identical frame for frame.I guess they wanted to remake it in colour ! It's even the same director !

Carbon copy? Not really.

Destry Rides Again: they are investigating if the sheriff has died.
Destry: they are investigating how the sheriff died.

Destry Rides Again: the good girl is the sister of the cattleman.
Destry: the good girl is related to the rancher cheated in the card game.

Destry Rides Again: cute subplot with the Callaghans.
Destry: Russian emigre "Callaghan" is now a doctor.

Destry Rides Again: final shootout a free-for-all involving the whole town.
Destry: final shootout involves only the bad guys, Frenchie and Destry in the saloon.

Destry Rides Again: Tom whittles.
Destry: Tom whiles away the time with a piece of string.

Destry Rides Again: Tom always related a story he heard.
Destry: Tom always related something he read in a book once.

After all, we wouldn't want George Marshall to get bored.

Also, Audie Murphy was too short for Mari Blanchard to ask him "How's the weather up there?" as Dietrich did with Stewart.

The chick fight was better in this one. The first one was more one sided. In this one, it was more even.

The Stewart version was better.
