when was this first on tv in the UK?

I was born in 1960,by the late 1960s when I was 9 or 10 I could see films like THE GUNS OF NAVARONE at cinemas because they put out films again and again back then.

But films on tv were different,there used to be a 7 year gap between a film in the cinema going onto tv.

I seem to have been watching films like this half my life,but when did I see it first on tv?

I remember seeing it on television in the UK in about 1982.

I remember it being on in about 73 or 74, probably for the 30th Anniversary. There was a big write-up about it in the Radio Times so that could well have been its first TV showing.

I can't really speak for the UK, but I recall first seeing it on Australian TV here in about 1961 or 1962.

Started me off on a life-long love affair with the Avro Lancaster...
