Coen Brothers??
I wonder if the Coen Brothers where influenced by this film. The ex cons remind me of those from "Raising Arizona".

I imagine they were. Another film I saw lately that smacked of Coen's was Charlie Varrick. I saw at least 3 different movies they've done in that one. It's great, check it out.

The commentary version constantly reiterated that this movie influenced Stanley Kubrick's The Killing released a few years later.

The Coen Bros did a movie called Crime Wave with Sam Raimi. Maybe the title was a nod to this film. In general, some of their films have film noir influence(In particular, Miller's Crossing and Dashiel Hammett). I wouldn't be surprised if Kubrick chose Hayden because of his performance in this and Asphalt Jungle for The Killing.
