Sad news. Remake has been canceled. Would have liked to see that.

I'd rather this be remade than the Mummy films.

I don't know you but already we have 2 things in common: We're opinionated and we're not omniscient.

Where'd you hear it's been cancelled?

reply

Literally last week but since that time, apparently Scarlett Johansson got offered the lead part since that time. If she's got a swimming sequence, yea that'll do good at the box office.

They must make it a serious creature horror flick that's faithful to the original and not some dumbed down watered down piece of crap and that way it should succeed at the box office.

Peter Jackson made a half decent attemt at Kong setting it in the 1930s but unfortunately he spolied some of it with cartoonish scenes so let's hope they avoid doing that.

Funny, I only go this board every couple of months and it's surprising to see a remake is on yet again. Good (?) if it happens, however I'm not sure about having A-listers star in it, in some ways I'd prefer it if they used some up and coming actors with maybe a few character actors as support. The Creature still has to be the star of the show after all, imho.

If they cast someone like Johansson, I imagine they'll update Kay's character to be much less passive, it could be cool if she's in charge of the expedition, or even make the scientists ambiguous as to if they're good or bad, but I just hope they don't reduce CFTBL to just a beast whose ass she kicks.

I actually posted on this board a couple of years back that one way they could update it is maybe make CFTBL a bit more humanoid in appearance (something like Rikuo in Darkstalkers) or more intelligent than just a predatory monster. He's my favourite Universal monster but I think they need to give him a bit more depth (pardon the pun), maybe play up the environmental angle a bit, if they could do it subtly.

This supposed to be part of the Universal's Monsters Cinematic Universe right? Well with the lukewarm reception of Dracula Untold which was supposed to kick start the franchise, and with the sequel on the fence, am a least bit surprised.

reply

It's like they have no idea what makes monster movies popular. Dracula should be a horror movie, not an action movie. Action/horror can be effective (see "Aliens"), but Dracula isn't that type of monster. And big SFX scenes are never scary. Sometimes the decisions studios make with their most valuable properties boggles the mind.

It's not sad news to me.

In my case, self-absorption is completely justified.

Please tell me you're kidding.

Hollywood will probably make an original movie in the future, but for now we have another generation of lazy worthless hacks turning Past Gold into worthless CGI crap.
