Absolutely superb!

This is the film Grace Kelly had been looking for all her short career. She was passionate about the stage and always working on the craft of acting. Yet she was mostly offered films where she played only glamorous women or a 'clothes horse' (in her own words). She longed for a project where she had a really substantial part and some real acting. This is it. Cast - for once - against type as a long suffering wife from humble origins, she really dominates the screen in this one. Great script and fine performances from everyone. A tough and unromantic film which was surprisingly frank for the time. A well deserved Oscar and compelling viewing.

For me this is the best movie of the 50s.
