Military Strategy-SPOILERS!

Cannot believe no one has commented on this board about this movie.

I will start. Anyone care to discuss the military strategy of this film?

Leaving the cavalry behind as rear guard. Ordering weary infantry to proceed-alone without covering cavalry-so they would be rested in the morning when the attack came...

If this happened in real-life and succeeded, it would have been a brilliant outcome. If not, it would have been a massacre...

Actually it was common practice for the slower moving infantry to get a head start so that they could camp next to the cavalry at night after the cavalry caught up with them. Of course most times a command would not be in danger of an immanent attack by hordes of hostiles.

The infantry rifles had a longer range than the cavalry carbines and the infantry's lack of horses to steal made them a less tempting target than cavalry.
