Answer to what happens to Jeff Douglas.

For those asking what happens to Jeff(Van Johnson)at the end of the film(including me earlier),I just saw a scene that would address that issue.When Mr.Lundie is explaining to Tommy & Jeff the history of Brigadoon,Tommy asks the question what if a stranger wished to stay in Brigadoon?Mr.Lundie tells him that if the stranger loves someone in Brigadoon,but not Brigadoon itself,then that stranger can join Brigadoon.Tommy & Fiona are in love,so Tommy can remain in the magical village.Jeff isn't in love with anyone from the village,so he would not be able to remain.

... and so Jeff will return to the 'normal world' and face charges of murder. I mean, he goes off into the Scottish highlands with his friend, and his friend doesn't return.

"Yes, inspector. He alive and well and is in a magical village called Brigadoon"
"I'll ask you this one more time and then I'm going to get the phone book to encourage a confession... where did you hide the body?"

Why would he be tried for murder? Jeff would simply file a missing person's report. He would tell the truth. Tommy went off by himself and was never seen again. There would be a search, which would be called off after they couldn't find him. There would be no reason to suspect foul play. No evidence and no motive.
