Sunday afternoon Classic

I love this film -Such fond memories for me. When I was little, I used to go and stay with my grandma, who lived in a small village in the cotswolds. Kingscote village looked like part of the set of this film and i used to love coming in after me and my brother had added a little more to our tree house project in the wood nearby and sticking this film on while Grandma got the dinner on.
Yeah, it's camp and hammed up and historically incorrect (I mean, I doubt medieval women were that good looking or were that hygenic) but it is a great swashbuckling adventure with a nice simple plot. Great stuff.

PS - I also found out that the guy who plays the Prince of Wales in this film also played Grig in 'The Last Starfighter' - Sweet.

Now for wrath!!! Now for Ruin!!! - King Theoden.

Dear Stag,

Something I heard on the radio triggered a memory of the funny way Tony Curtis delivered a certain line in period movie, and I am wondering if Black Shield of Falworth was the movie. The line was, "Yondah lies de castle of my faddah." Commentators used to utter this quote in a thick Brooklyn or Bronx accent, making fun of Tony in his early years before he learned to polish his speech. Can you tell me if that line came from your beloved movie, or was it in another? I know the actor was Tony Curtis, just not sure of which movie it came from. Thank you if you can help.

Sorry, not so. The line is from the movie, "Son of Ali Baba" co-staring Piper Laurie.

Actually, that line is *not* in this film, although Tony Curtis' accent is present throughout. This is based on having personally seen the movie numerous times. I have read that the "Yondah is da castle..." line was not in any of his films but was just a generic example of how Tony read his lines in this & other films from this period of history.

I found a copy of this movie in November 2008 at a used video and music store for 3 bucks. Great fun film to watch.

Saw this movie as a 10yr old.. The kind of stuff I would love, but have to admit Tony's accent made us giggle and hold in the laughter.
Tony's had one hell of a life..
